OFFICIAL STATEMENT

21 March 2022 Vilnius, Lithuania

Lithuanian Society of Urologists (LSU) condemns the war in Ukraine initiated by the Russian Federation and it’ s accomplice Belarus, and strongly stresses that the international principle of medical neutrality and human rights must be respected. We emphasize that medical facilities must not be military targets, doctors and healthcare workers must not be prevented from performing their professional duties, and all efforts must be made to ensure that patients and injured people have full access to the quality healthcare.

Supporting European Association of Urology (EAU) official position expressed by EAU Secretary General profC Chapple on I I ‘ th of March, Board of Lithuanian Society of Urologists agreed, that:

All joint activities with the national urological societies of Russia and Belarus will be ceased until further notice.
The LSU will suspend active involvement and contribution of Russian and Belarusian urologists in any LSU academical, scientifical or medical activities until further notice.
Attendance by Russian or Belarusian delegates in joint projects is on hold and will be reconsidered depending on future developments of the conflict.

And importantly, our long-term, fruitful partnership with Ukrainian colleagues and organisations will continue unabated, to the extent that circumstances allow. We comit to put all the efforts to support our colleagues with the neccessary medical, scientifical or organisational activities.

Next to that, Lithuanian Society of Urologists will support Ukrainian people via international support organizations and will encourage our members to donate to the International Red Cross and UNHCR.
